CHARLESTON PIRATE TOURS AND ISLAND PARADISE BALLOON ART TO PERFORM AT NORTH CHARLESTON ARTS FESTIVAL

(Charleston, SC)   Island Paradise Balloon Art and Charleston Pirate Tours will perform at the 2012 North Charleston Arts Festival.  Island Paradise Balloon Art will provide balloon twisting entertainment at Northwoods Mall on Friday, May 4 from 6pm to 8pm and at the Performing Arts Center on Sunday, May 6 from 2pm to 5pm.  On May 9, 2012.  Eric Lavender of Charleston Pirate Tours will present his storytelling program, The Golden Age of Piracy, which features the true tales of Charleston’s pirate history.  The performance is scheduled for 4:30 p.m at the Dorchester Road Regional Library.  Captain Bob, the blue and gold macaw will appear with Lavender.

Charleston’s real pirate history is as entertaining and humorous as anything Hollywood puts on the big screen.  The most famous pirates of the age had ties to Charleston and either made the city a target or a place to do business with merchants.  Blackbeard’s most notorious escapade was the blockade of Charleston’s harbor, and recent research uncovered documents that make a compelling argument that Blackbeard was born in the Goose Creek area.  The “Gentleman Pirate,” Stede Bonnet ended his piratical career in Charleston… at the end of a rope.  Anne Bonny was another famous pirate with Charleston ties.  She grew up on an area plantation.  These are just a few examples of Charleston’s rich pirate history.

Eric Lavender is a professional storyteller and licensed Charleston Tour Guide.  Lavender has entertained thousands of children and adults with appearances throughout the southeast and on television.  Eric has a passion for Lowcountry history and brings that history to life with exciting, historically accurate storytelling programs.  He specializes in pirate and ghost stories.  As owner of Charleston Pirate Tours, Eric spends his days spinning pirate tales on walking tours of the Holy City’s historic district and presenting his “Charleston’s Golden Age of Piracy” storytelling program at museums, schools, events, and libraries.
